RECAP – TOR 1 @ MTL 4

Montreal, QC – Les Canadiennes de Montreal skated to a 4-1 victory over the Toronto Furies Sunday afternoon at Centre Etienne-Desmarteau in what was their second game against the Furies in as many days.

Les Canadiennes’ first lead of the game came at 1:19 of the opening frame off the stick of Katia Clement-Heydra, marking her first of the season. Caroline Ouellette and Sarah Lefort collected assists on the play.

Les Canadiennes held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal after one period.

Late in the second period, Montreal increased their lead to two when Karell Emard fed Noemie Marin who found the back of the net at the 16:02. Les Canadiennes would get into penalty trouble at the end of the period when Kim Deschenes headed off to serve a bench minor for too many men. The Furies would take advantage of the power play before then end of the period with Natalie Spooner getting her fourth of the season. Erin Ambrose would earn an assist on the goal.

Toronto entered the third period down by a goal and looking for an opportunity to even the score. Marin would head off for delay of game early on in the third giving the Furies the opportunity they were looking for, but the home team killed off the two minutes.

Feeding off that momentum, Montreal continued to attack the Furies zone and earned their third goal of the game at the 15:13 mark of the frame. This time it was Lefort from Ouellettee and Clement-Heydra.

Ann-Sophie Bettez would add a fourth just over a minute later in the game sealing the deal for Les Canadiennes. Cathy Chartrand and Deschenes would get the assists.

Montreal outshot Toronto 10-4 in the third period and Catherine Herron would earn her first win for Les Canadiennes.

Toronto heads back home for their next match as they face off in a home and home series against GTA rivals the Brampton Thunder. Game time is 8 pm on Saturday October 29th at MasterCard Centre for Hockey Excellence.
